Our Pets Rely On Us For Their Energetic Well-Being

Our pets are not only dependent on us for their physical well-being, but they also depend on us for their emotional and mental well-being. Animals are feeling beings, meaning they experience the world primarily through the energy and emotions that surround them. As a result, they are highly sensitive to and acutely aware of the mental and emotional state of everyone in the household. This is why it is so important for us, as their pet guardians, to make an intention every day to remain grounded and energetically balanced. If you want to have a stronger connection with and a greater understanding of your pet, cultivating awareness of your energetic state and surroundings is essential.

The benefits your pets experience when you can ground yourself are endless. They will experience greater freedom to be themselves since they are no longer trying to decipher or mitigate our energy. This, in turn, will give them space to ground themselves, grow and learn (this may be particularly helpful if you are trying to teach your pet new tricks or build new habits).

It is at this point that I want to make clear that I am not saying you can’t have a bad day. We all have bad days. We feel frustrated, sad, tired, whatever it may be. To be grounded or energetically balanced is not to be without ‘negative’ emotions or states - it is to be aware, acknowledge, and take ownership of our feelings. When we move unconsciously through our day, it can have a negative impact on the energetic well-being of our beloved animals. It can cause them to become needy, disinterested or distracted.

Signs Your Pet Needs Help Grounding

What are the warning signs you are looking for that indicate your pet may need a little help with grounding? Well, we are often quite familiar with our own personal cues that signal we are energetically out of balance. Think of the weeks where your yoga practice took the back seat to upcoming work deadlines and you found yourself unable to focus, overly sensitive and eating your way through your stash of chocolate. Our animals exhibit a similar manifestation of energetic imbalance. You might find them overly anxious, unable to settle, and restless. You might also find them unfocused, not listening as well as they usually do, or barking more than usual.

How To Bring Yourself & Your Pet Back Into Balance

As an animal communicator, maintaining a grounded, balanced, and energetic state is essential for establishing a connection and understanding when communicating with your pet. However, it is also important for me to maintain a grounded presence in my home. The benefits our pets experience when we can ground ourselves are endless. These are three ways I use (that you can use too) to bring myself and my animals back into energetic balance:

  1. I become physically aware of myself and the space I occupy with my body. Become aware of your physical body; wiggle your toes, wiggle your fingers, feel your skin, and focus on your breathing. This helps you get into the present moment and allows your pet to sense your presence.

  2. I help my pet connect with their body - Give your pet a slow and loving touch, from the top of their head to the tip of their tail.  Make it slow and deliberate as this helps your pet become present in their body. You can also do this down each of their legs to their toes.

  3.  Go for a walk, engage in a mindful play session or have an intentional grooming session.

  • If you are walking, let them sniff and lead the walk. Walk with no set agenda but with the intention of “smelling the roses” and seeing where the walk takes you. Walk mindfully with them (no cell phones).

  • If you are playing with them, be engaged and give them the same energy back. Leave the disinterest and distraction behind! Get interested! Give your full, undivided attention! Get interested! Laugh, play, and bring out your inner child!

  • If you are grooming them, think of it as giving them a full-body massage! This is not a chore, but rather a way to help them relax. This is a great way to learn how their body is feeling, whether they are sore, itchy, or have any lumps or bumps.

Have the intention of being present! If you find that you need a little extra support before incorporating your pet into the grounding process, you can take 10 minutes to do a quick Crystal Grounding Visualization. Taking this little extra time for yourself can help ensure that you set the right energy to guide your animal into a state of groundedness with you.
